PATRICK GEENTY has been confirmed as the new Chief Constable of Wiltshire by the county’s new Police and Crime Commissioner.
He has been carrying out the role on a temporary basis since March last year when former chief Brian Moore moved to take charge of the UK Border Force.
Commissioner Angus Macpherson is the first PCC in England and Wales to appoint a new chief since the election in November.
Former secondary school teacher Mr Geenty has been in the police for the past 30 years, including a spell as a detective.
He was one of three candidates interviewed by the commissioner and the leaders of Swindon Borough and Wiltshire Council on Monday.
Mr Macpherson said: “I look forward to continuing to work with him. He is an outstanding leader and I am very pleased that we will be working together to deliver my forthcoming police and crime plan.”
Formal confirmation of the appointment is due at Friday’s meeting of the police and crime panel and the plan is due to be published by the end of March.
