WORK has begun on a popular Cotswold walking route which was damaged in the recent floods.

The section of the Thames Path running through Ewen had become impassable since the flooding earlier last month and residents had formed an action group to deal with the problem.

Kemble and Ewen Parish Councillor Michael Binks told the Standard that conservation workers had already carried out the first phase of work to clear the path of leaves and mud and had uncovered a hard core base.

He added the path had not needed to be closed while the work was carried out and the next stage of work was due to be carried out in the new year.
