A WOMAN who died in a crash in Cirencester on Boxing Day has been named as 50-year-old Karen Amanda Jane Hartshorn from South Cerney.

She died after the blue Citeron Saxo she was driving collided with a grey Citroen Berlingo outside the Royal Agricultural College on the A419 just after 11am.

When paramedics from Great Western Ambulance Service arrived at the scene she was trapped in her car and unconscious.

She suffered a cardiac arrest at the scene and was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, but later died.

The driver of the Belingo, a 55-year-old man from Stroud, was taken to Gloucester Royal Hospital and his female passenger was taken to Cirencester Hospital, both with minor injuries.

The road was closed for around four hours while investigations were carried out.

It is not believed Karen Hartshorn is connected to Max Hartshorne, who was also from South Cerney and died in a suspected hit-and-run in August, but police said they were unable to confirm this at this stage.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Gloucestershire police on 101 quoting incident number 93 of December 26.
