ALL Hallows Church was transformed into a winter wonderland last weekend, as South Cerney hosted its first ever Christmas Tree Festival.

A total of 22 Christmas trees were packed into the church, with exhibitors including Ann Edward’s Primary School, the United Church, the Royal British Legion, the Gardening Club and the Art Club.

Organiser Joan Townsend said the event was a success. “The trees looked stunning,” she said. “The ideas people came up with were brilliant. There were some very original and creative designs.”

About 50 children from the reception class at Ann Edward’s School worked together to decorate their tree in the colours of the school uniform. “It was lovely to see them all in the church, there was a real buzz,” said Joan.

Meanwhile, volunteers from the Royal British Legion dedicated their tree to remembrance by covering the branches in red poppies. Joan added: “Some people found it quite emotional - it was very moving spectacle.”
