ADVICE on local support for victims of domestic abuse will be available in Cirencester on Monday.

Cotswold District Council, the Gloucestershire Domestic Abuse Support Service (GDASS), New Brewery Arts, and Gloucestershire Public Protection Bureau are joining forces to run a stall to raise awareness of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

The stall – in the New Brewery Arts theatre space in Cirencester - will be open from from 10am to 2pm on Monday, November 26.

Information about domestic abuse will be available as well as advice on the support that is available locally, including the therapeutic Your Future arts project for families.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to show their support by collecting a purple or white ribbon to wear.

A spokesperson for GDASS said: “One in four women will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lifetime and men can also be victims.

"However, there is help and support available through GDASS and other partners. We are working together locally to make sure people are aware of the problem and know where to get help if they need it.”

Aderyn Roberts, the Exhibitions and Participation Manager at New Brewery Arts, said: "Tackling the issue of domestic violence and abuse is sensitive and, through the Your Future project, we aim to help and support victims of domestic violence and their families through a series of weekly sessions of pottery.

"Participants work in a safe and friendly environment with excellent tuition from artists and experienced professionals on hand for support.

"Sessions are available for adult women, teenagers and children and they are scheduled to run again in January 2013. They are supported by GDASS drop-in sessions for any member of the community who needs advice and help.”
