PART of the A419 trunk road between Cirencester anad Swindon will be closed overnight on two consecutive weekends this month so remedial work can be undertaken.

The northbound carriageway of the A419, from junction 15 of the M4 to the A4259 Commonhead roundabout, will be closed from 10pm next Friday, November 23 until 6am on Monday, November 26.

The southbound carriageway will then be closed from 10pm on Friday, November 30 until 6am on Monday, December 3.

Highways Agency Area Performance Manager, Dave Sledge said: “To minimise disruption, work has been scheduled to avoid peak traffic times and events such as Swindon Town football club home fixtures.

“Although the diversion routes will cause only a slight delay we would advise road users to plan their journeys and drive safely via the signposted diversion routes.”

The closures are required for remedial resurfacing, drainage and barrier work and have been restricted to single carriageway closures to limit the amount of traffic approaching the Commonhead roundabout.

During the closures, traffic will be diverted to leave the A419 via the exit slip roads at the A4259 Commonhead roundabout and to re-join it via the entry slip roads at the same roundabout. The diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Preparatory work and safety barrier inspection will also require overnight closure of the A419 from 10pm until 6am the following morning, as follows:

• 20 Nov - northbound closure

• 21 Nov - southbound closure

• 22 Nov - Closure of both carriageways

Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.
