POLICE are warning homeowners to keep a light on after a surge of night-time burglaries in empty homes across the Cotswolds.
More than ten burglaries have been carried out over the past week in several towns and villages, including Tetbury, South Cerney, Cirencester, Leighterton and Chedworth.
In one break-in, burglars stole a solitaire diamond ring and a ruby ring set with diamonds, along with hundreds of pounds worth of silverware from a Lechlade home, between 6.30pm and 10.30pm on November 5.
Sgt Garret Gloyn of Cirencester police station said: "Now that it is getting darker earlier, I urge people to invest in a timer light and use it in their house.
"Every burglar that I know would rather burgle a house which looks empty rather than one where people could be in."
