A VOLUNTEER soldier from Tetbury who has served in Afghanistan has been recognised for his bravery and dedication with a coveted award.

Corporal Shaun Tyrrell was presented with the HM Lord-Lieutenant’s Commendations for Meritorious Service by Gloucestershire Lord-Lieutenant Dame Janet Trotter MBE at a ceremony earlier this month.

Corporal Tyrrell, 33, joined the Rifle Volunteers in 2003 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2003.

Wessex Reserve Forces and Cadets Association chief executive Brigadier Tony Dalby-Welsh called him “A credit to Gloucestershire”.
