Police defend 'moral judgement' of suspended DSI Steve Fulcher
5:09pm Thursday 25th October 2012 in News By Standard reporter
Wiltshire Police today confirmed the reasons for the suspension of Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher, following the sentencing of murderer Christopher Halliwell last week.
A spokesman from Wiltshire Police said: “Following the findings of the voire dire, Wiltshire Police made a number of referrals to the IPCC. This referral did not result in Detective Superintendent Fulcher being suspended.
“Subsequent to this a separate matter relating to alleged inappropriate contact with the media was referred to the IPCC and Wiltshire Police made the difficult decision to suspend Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher.
“Wiltshire Police understand that Detective Superintendent Fulcher had to make a moral judgement in a pressured environment and Wiltshire Police continue to support his rationale and his intention to find Sian alive.”
Wiltshire Police said they were co-operating fully with the IPCC in their investigations.
