Road noise fight in Cotswold Water Park is ramped up

WATER Park residents will soon get a chance to join a campaign to fight excessive road noise in the area.

Councillors and residents from parishes covering the stretch of the A419 and A417, from Bagendon to Latton, have met for the second time to discuss how communities can take action against intrusive noise from the road.

Group chairman and Cotswold district councillor Paul Hodgkinson (Churn Valley) said noise had been a problem since the road was built in 1998 and they were exploring the option of resurfacing the carriageway or installing noise reduction features to ease the problem.

"We realise the financial backdrop is challenging so our meetings at the moment are to see whether there's a public will to reduce the noise from the road," Cllr Hodgkinson said.

A request for information from the Department for Transport has been made by the group to find out more details about the contract and construction of the route, which they hope will help the cause.

And a campaign is expected to be launched later this year to find out what sort of action local people want.
