AN NHS dentist will open in Cirencester despite resident's concerns it will lead to parking mayhem.
The family-run dentist will operate from a converted house in Ashcroft Road following permission granted by Cotswold District Council's planning committee.
Agent George Stephens said his brother-in-law is the applicant and his sister is the practice owner.
"We really are a family business and we believe in working with our local community," he said.
But Cllr Geoffrey Adams (Cirencester, Park, Cons) spoke on behalf of worried residents when he told the committee the application would lead to more commercial premises being set up in the residential road.
But the other members disagreed and Cllr Richard Dickinson said NHS dentists were like "hen's teeth" and the council should be grateful for the application.
Cllr Tony Curry (Cirencester, Park, Cons) said: "This should be applauded and certainly with the added benefit of helping the elderly."
The committee voted in favour of the dental practice.

50 yards from the brewery car park.
Sounds like a case of "not in my back yard"
