A MAN has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal head-on collision near Birdlip last night.

A man believed to be from Swindon, who was driving a blue Mazda, was declared dead at the scene of the crash at 11.30pm.

The collision occurred on the A417 between Birdlip and Nettleton Bottom when the Mazda driving towards Cirencester and a black BMW convertible travelling towards Cheltenham crashed head-on.

The 25-year-old man from Surrey, driving the BMW, was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

He has since been arrested for death by dangerous driving.

The road between Birdlip and Nettleton Bottom near the Cowley roundabout was reopened this morning.
