GAFFER TAPES . . . King’s Lynn v Ciren Town

KING'S LYNN have now scored 10 goals against us in two games. That's why I think they are the best team in this league.

There are always goals in that team and they have the players to hurt you.

Having said that, my two strikers both scored and two goals away from home is usually a good afternoon's work.

We couldn't have made a better start when Matt Williams scored after just three minutes.

It was an excellent finish by him and that's two from two in the games he has played.

For 20 minutes we did okay and then the referee penalised us on the edge of the box when it was never a free-kick.

Their lad Joe Francis has shown a great bit of quality to curl it in around the wall.

From that moment they had their tails up and it became a struggle.

The second goal was deflected; the third goal looked well offside. When they made it 4-1 so early in the second half I thought it was going to be an even heavier defeat than it ended up.

At 5-1, Robbo took his goal very well and then they finished it off with a penalty in stoppage time.

The bottom line is that we didn't defend well and haven't done so for the last two and a half months.

We had some major disruption to the team this time. Chris Collins had work commitments and couldn't play. Al Stanley was carrying an injury and felt he couldn't start.

Then Ben Weedon called me at 7.30 in the morning to say he had been up all night with flu and would have to pull out.

So we put Nathan at centre back alongside Moly, Aaron came in at left back, and Jacko returned to midfield.

Hopefully, we will have Chris and Ben back for Hemel on Monday, but Chappy will be missing again as it is the last game of his ban.

Hemel played at home today and their pitch is sure to be cut up and heavy, especially with the weather forecast, so we could do with some fresh legs.

Max Etheridge will definitely be back in the squad on Monday.

Obviously, our situation worsens by the game but we still have eight games left and I will be putting out teams who will fight for every point. Again, there was no lack of effort today and some of our build-up play was good and we did give their goalie a bit to do.

Of course, money isn't everything, but King's Lynn's budget is four times our own and you can see that in the size and quality of their squad.

It is very hard to compete with the big-sending clubs.
