£1m move for local family firm

A FAMILY business is investing £1m in a major redevelopment programme to expand its premises and create new jobs in the process.

Cirencester Intruder Alarms, headed by owner Colin Harrison, whose wife Nicci and son Matthew also manage the firm, has embarked upon redevelopment of a building adjoining Love Lane to eventually provide a 10,000 square feet facility.

The investment is in response to major levels of new customer requirements for intruder alarms and to help broaden CIA's recent expansion into fire alarm and sprinkler systems.

The company, founded 20 years ago, also plans to develop a training centre, both for CIA apprentices and as a centre of excellence for other businesses in the industry requiring training for their staff.

Refurbishment, which will take up to six months, will include a second floor, new roof, extensive enhancements to the exterior and internal remodeling.

Mr Harrison said the expansion programme was needed to accommodate CIA's increasing staff levels, which have been increasing at a rate of around five new positions annually.

"We have a rolling five-year growth plan that has come about because of the support of our employees and customers who together have raised us to a very significant level," he said.

"We are all very proud of the team's achievements: we are Investors in People and have secured key industry standards such as NSI Gold and BAFE accreditation.

"Our next target is City and Guilds accreditation as a training provider, internally and externally."

About time. I've lost count of the number of times I've almost been struck by a CIA vehicle whilst walking near Tesco in town.
