CAMPAIGNERS protesting against foopath restrictions at Lake 104 in Fairford have hit out at claims circulated door to door in the town they have used underhand tactics against developers Cygnet Investments.

The leaflets, posted through letterboxes across the town purport to be from Cygnet Investments.

In them it reads: "There is a small group of people who are misleading the community, by word of mouth and through the press; this group are claiming to represent the whole of Fairford. They have used a number of underhand tactics and told a considerable amount of mistruths for their own gain."

The leaflets are professionally printed but contain some grammatical mistakes. There is nothing else to suggest where they have come from with no names or contact details.

No one at Cygnet Investments would comment on the leaflets or confirm whether the company had any involvement.

Suzanne Jones, chairman of the environmental society, said: "We were bemused by the spelling and grammar. We all thought that it was misinformation and not representing the true facts which is why we replied."

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "If it was from Cygnet wouldn't they have their address on it? It seems a bizarre thing for a company to be putting out."
