Personal Overview - South West based consultant having served with the Royal Navy in Portsmouth, research work at Southampton General Hospital, and his previous role in Gloucestershire. Closely involved with the Candidates' Department at Conservative Central Office during the 1997 election, he has also helped former Cabinet Minister Lord Freeman with a Bow Group pamphlet. Entitled 'Investors in Communities' it examined policy options for encouraging volunteer activity, an area of particular interest for this Tory MP. His medical experience has led him to support community based medical provision, leading to campaigning to promote community hospitals in the West Wiltshire area of his constituency. Secured selection despite a lack of prior representative experience in part due to astute positioning, additionally Lord Freeman was the senior screener for Conservative PPCs at the 2001 election. Advanced to become a middle ranking Opposition Spokesman, but was not able to immediately translate this into a Government role.

Personal Overview - Former Conservative Peer who defected to the UK Independence party successfully gained election to the European Parliament at the 2009 elections. From a background in accountancy, he has worked in several countries, including the United Arab Emirates and US. A former Hereditary Peer, he lost his seat in the House of Lords in November 1999 in the Lords reforms of that year. Having reinvented himself as a UK Independence member he has the opportunity to use his accountancy skills to highlight any financial issues within the EU.
