The seventh annual derby, which was organised by Tetbury Lions, was won by Steve Thomas with a time of 31.18 seconds.

An impressive 23 racers took part in the event where competitors build their own motor-less racing carts to take on the course which begins at Chipping Street car park along Cirencester.

The course then turns right at the Royal Oak via a sharp hairpin which heads towards the Millennium Green onto the home straight towards the finish.

The event began with a practise run before racers had two runs to try and finish with the fastest time.

There was also a junior category at this year’s event for 12-to-17-year-olds.

Prizes were given out to everyone who completed the course, with the winner also taking home a shield and a prize for best cart design.

Refreshment’s, stalls and children’s entertainment was also on offer, which made it a family friendly occasion in the sunshine as temperatures soared on a record-breaking May Day.
