SALISBURY Chamber Chorus comes to Malmesbury Abbey on Saturday, November 18 to perform Fauré’s much-loved Requiem from 7.30pm.

The concert is raising funds for Community First, Wiltshire’s Rural Community Council, on behalf of the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Lady Marland, and is generously supported by the James Dyson Foundation.

Conducted by Simon McEnery, musical director of the Salisbury Chamber Chorus, the performance features Claudia Grinnell, assistant organist at Winchester Cathedral.

Known as ‘the little choir with the big sound,’ Salisbury Chamber Chorus has been recently feted for its performances in Salisbury and London of Simon McEnery’s new work, Space Time Matter Energy.

But opera and traditional choral music figure strongly in the choir’s repertoire.

“We’re delighted to be singing this choral classic in Malmesbury Abbey,” said Simon.

“It’s a tremendous honour to collaborate with the High Sheriff for such a worthwhile cause, and we’ll be bringing our trademark energy to the performance.”

Meanwhile Lady Marland said: “Community First does tremendous work to improve the quality of life and economic well-being of communities in our county. They deserve all the help we can give them.”

  • Tickets are £15 from Salisbury Playhouse on 01722 320333 or salisburyplayhouse.com; from the Abbey or on the door.
