Thursday, Sept 21

Cirencester

  • FASHION Show at Bingham Hall on King Street, showcasing the autumn and winter collections of some of the town’s prestigious boutiques. Also enjoy browsing among stalls displaying the interesting wares of many other local businesses. The show will have a ‘Festival’ theme, and will raise funds for Cirencester Hospital League of Friends as well as the Legacy Fund for the Abbey Grounds. Doors open at 6.45pm and tickets are £12 to include a glass of fizz, call 01285 644244. An Abbey900 event. 
  • THEATRE Ink presents Burt Bacharach’s vintage comedy Promises, Promises at the Barn Theatre at 7.30pm each night until Sunday. The story follows ambitious businessman Chuck Baxter who lends his bachelor pad for extramarital affairs to help him up the corporate ladder. The show features some of Bacharach’s most renowned numbers including Say a Little Prayer and I’ll Never Fall in Love Again. Tickets in advance are £12 with £10 concessions. 
  • AWARD-winning Scratchworks Theatre Company comes to the Sundial Theatre to rewrite the historic events of Aylesbury 1963, with their new show Great Train Robbery. Since forming in 2013 the company has sold out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and gathered a loyal following throughout the South West. Enjoy this latest classic performed with a twist. Duntisbourne Abbots

  • JOIN the WI for an evening of Indian dancing in the village hall, with guest teacher and speaker Ann Blagden. From 7.30pm, learn about the history of Indian dancing and try a few moves. Everyone is welcome. The cost is £4 per person including refreshments. 

Saturday, Sept 23

Cirencester

  • ‘WARTIME Life in the Cotswolds’ is on display in the old hospital cottages and air raid shelter of The former Memorial Hospital on Sheep Street. The rooms are open from 10.30am-4.30pm with free admission. Next Saturday will be the last day of the exhibition. Alternative dates can be arranged for schools and other groups, call 01285 650012.

Colesbourne

  • ARBORETUM open day at Colesbourne Park from 12.30pm. View the collection of 300 trees from around the world and embark on an optional guided tour from Sir Henry Elwes, whose great grandfather started the collection, or head gardener Arthur Cole. Admission is £7.50 with children free. Also on Sunday.

Cirencester

  • ABBEY900 closing ceremony with Festival Evensong is in the Parish Church at 6pm. Then from 7.30-9pm the Community Harvest Supper will be held. Tickets are a minimum £5 donation for fizz, canapes and a two-course dinner. Contact abbey900ciren@gmail.com or call 01285 644244 for tickets. 

Elkstone

  • EXCEPTIONAL garage sale at Elkstone Manor (GL53 9PD). Mammoth clear-out after 28 years. This is a ruthless de-cluttering by the owner, covering all those years of children, music-playing and listening-to hobbies, decorating, gardening, building work, DIY, entertaining, pictures – you name it, Elkstone Manor has done it all and anything they can now do without has to go. Elkstone Manor will not be doing this again so make the most of it. Visit between 10am and 1pm. There is on-site parking available.
