THE Amadeus Orchestra will make a welcome return to Chipping Sodbury on October 10, performing in The Town Hall.

Chipping Sodbury Music Society shares a long history with The Amadeus Orchestra and their director and principal conductor, Philip Mackenzie.

The Society first brought them to the Parish Church of St John the Baptist, Wickwar Road, in 2008 when Angus Meryon was the soloist in Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto in A, K 622”.

The following year they returned, Francesca Barritt was the solo violinist in Vaughan Williams’ “The Lark Ascending” and the orchestra also played “Dance Marathon ($1000 stake)” commissioned from their resident composer Alastair King.

The Music Society organised many outside visits and travelled to Wells Cathedral in 2010, 2011 and 2012 to hear the Amadeus Orchestra performing.

The Orchestra began in 1990 and is one of the world's foremost training orchestras for young professionals and music students. Musicians who have trained with them have gone on to play in almost every major orchestra in the world.

In recent years they have performed concertos with Raphael Wallfisch, Julian Lloyd Webber and Steven Isserlis and they have a close working relationship with Bournemouth Symphony Chorus.

The performance on October 10 will feature Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto in A, K 622” played by Claire King.

The programme will also include two works by Handel, "Arrival of the Queen of Sheba” and “Water Music”.

This will be the Society’s 70th anniversary gala concert.
