FIFTY years ago on October 8, 1967, Stroud and District Motor Club organised its first stage rally in Ebworth Woods in Sheepscombe.

The Stroud News and Journal provided the overall winner’s trophy.

The event proved popular and in 1975 it saw an entry from royal motor enthusiast HRH Prince Michael of Kent, driving a Ford Escort RS. In the same year, the morning stages of the event were also held at Gatcombe Park, before it was owned by Princess Anne.

The event ran annually until 1992, but the club continued to hold classic car trials at the venue until 2016.

To celebrate the anniversary, the club would like to invite organisers, marshals, drivers, navigators, or anybody who had any association with the stage rally to a reunion, which will be held on October 8, 2017 – exactly 50 years to the day, since the first event.

Stroud and District Motor Club itself was formed in 1950 and ran a number of navigational road rallies throughout the 1950s. The club remains very active and still runs a full calendar of successful competitive and social events annually, which are always well-supported.

Anyone interested in attending the reunion, should contact the coordinator by email on ebworthreunion2017@gmail.com or Nigel Moss by phone on 01453 822849.
