FORMER England fast bowler and BBC Strictly Come Dancing winner (2005) Darren Gough will be playing at Upton St Leonards Cricket Club in a special event for The Lord’s Taverners charity on Friday, July 21. A cricket match and fundraising dinner is being held to raise money for a specially adapted minibus for a local school.

The day will kick off with a cricket match between the Taverners XI and an Upton team at Upton St Leonards' Recreation Ground starting at 2pm. The Lord's Taverners' team will include ex-international cricketers Darren Gough and Gus Mackay, as well as Sky's Jon Desborough.

Entry is a suggested £5 donation, with children free. A BBQ and refreshments will be on offer, as well as the chance to see some high quality cricket in the summer sun and lively commentary from author Felix Francis. Proceeds will go to the Lord's Taverners' charity towards buying a minibus for the Peak Academy in Dursley.

Simon Harkin, chairman of Upton St Leonard's Cricket Club said "As a local cricket club we are delighted to hold such a prestigious event in conjunction with The Lord's Taverners.

"In the last two years we have raised a significant amount of money to build practice nets that are well used by youth and disabled cricket teams. This is another excellent way for us to be able to support the local community."

There will also be the opportunity to join Darren Gough for a three-course meal at 7pm to be held at Upton St Leonards Primary School after the game. Jon Desborough will host the evening with Darren Gough, during which the ex England star will talk about his career and answer questions from dinner guests.

Tickets for the evening meal must be pre-booked and are priced at £50 per person. Dress code is smart, ties expected (black tie optional).
