AN ALL-male production of The Mikado receives its world premiere in Bath as Sasha Regan’s award-winning company stage Gilbert and Sullivan’s best-loved operetta.

The Mikado is at the Theatre Royal from Tuesday, April 18-Saturday, April 22 prior to a UK tour.

This hilarious tale of love, corruption in local government, marriage and heroics, brings to life some of Gilbert and Sullivan's most colourful and popular characters, from Ko-Ko the Lord High Executioner, Pooh-Bah and Nanki-Poo, to the three little maids.

Joyful, witty and fun for all the family, prepare to be thoroughly entertained by The Mikado as you’ve never seen it before.

Recent winner of the Special Achievement Award at the Off West End Awards 2017 for her contribution to musical theatre, Sasha Regan’s idea to transform Gilbert and Sullivan favourites into all-male productions stemmed from her own experiences in her formative years performing Gilbert and Sullivan at a single-sex school.

In true topsy–turvy fashion, Gilbert and Sullivan’s inherent humour and timeless tunefulness are married with Sasha Regan’s wicked sense of fun as The Mikado pokes fun at British politics and institutions.

In this vibrant new production, the playful storyline transports audiences to 1950s England where a school camping trip is visiting the far away land of Titipu - a place where flirting is banned on pain of death and where tailors can become Lord High Executioners, but cannot cut off another’s head - until they have cut off their own.

Sasha Regan said: “Nothing gives me greater pleasure than seeing our work playing in some of the most beautiful theatres our country has to offer. 2017 is going to be a great year for us as we bring a brand new staging to our audiences - it's beyond exciting.”

The talented, 15-strong male cast skilfully play lords, maids, guards and school-girls.

Returning to Bath, following their memorable performances in Sasha Regan’s H.M.S. Pinafore last year and The Pirates of Penzance in 2015, are James Waud as Mikado, David McKechnie as Ko-Ko and Richard Russell Edwards as Peep-Bo.

Also returning from the 2015 company are Alan Richardson as Yum-Yum and Alex Weatherhill as Katisha.

The role of Nanki-Poo is played by Richard Munday with Ben Vivian-Jones as Pish-Tush, Ross Finnie as Pooh-Bah and Jamie Juke as Pitti-Sing.

The cast is completed by Matthew Hobbs, Daniel Slade, Joey Warne, Jordan Ginger, Peter Houston and Daniel Miles who play multiple roles in the Ensemble.

With music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W.S. Gilbert, The Mikado (or The Town of Titipu) is the ninth of 14 operatic collaborations by the famous duo.
