NAILSWORTH'S Dramatic Society’s production at the Town Hall from March 22 is Waiting In The Wings by Noel Coward.

The play premiered in Dublin in 1960 starring Sybil Thorndike and several other actresses who had been great stars of the stage in their heyday.

Now it is coming to Nailsworth, directed by Sue Bateman, with a lively cast of local actors.

What could be more calm and peaceful than a care home in the Thames Valley for ladies of threescore years or more?

But think again. There is nothing very genteel about “The Wings”, a small charity home for retired actresses.

It provides for those who have been stars and leading ladies and who, through lack of providence or misfortune, have fallen on hard times.

But they have certainly not forgotten their past glories and are not averse to the odd moments of sharp repartee, of jealousy, of somewhat embroidering their past and of enjoying the odd dance, song or occasional sip of something bubbly.

Some are definitely getting a bit forgetful and one in particular is losing the plot.

Then the arrival of a new member re-ignites an old romantic rivalry resulting in some very meaningful sulking.

All are however united in wanting the care home Trust to build a new “solarium” where they can take the sun without catching a chill.

In this they have some unexpected help.

Expect high drama, playing with fire, arguments, infiltration by the press, song, dance and even death but above all great entertainment.
