MALMESBURY Abbey Music Society present an afternoon free organ recital featuring the organ scholar of Gloucester Cathedral, James Anderson-Besant.

James will present a programme of Johann Sebastian Bach, Maurice Durufle, Jehan Alain and Louis Vierne in the surroundings of Malmesbury Abbey at 3pm on Wednesday, January 18.

James Anderson-Besant, former pupil at Abingdon school, is currently spending a gap year as the Organ Scholar of Gloucester Cathedral, where he regularly accompanies services sung by the Cathedral Choir, the new Girl Choristers, the Youth Choir and the Junior Choir. 

He assists in the Cathedral’s programme of music outreach in local primary schools, and is also accompanist to the Wycliffe Choral Society. 

After his gap year James will take up the Organ Scholarship at St John’s College, Cambridge along with a place to read Music.

The recital is one of MAMS' regular free organ recitals sponsored by John and Jill Rycroft.

Tea and cakes will be available after the recital from the Abbey Café and there will be a voluntary retiring collection for the Abbey Roof Fund.

Free entry, all are welcome to attend.
