NATURE in Art near Gloucester is hosting an exhibition by glass artist Amanda Lawrence from November 22-December 18.

The Valley in the Glass is Amanda Lawrence's unique take on the interaction between people, wildlife and the processes of change in Slad Valley.

The exhibition is something of a first for Nature in Art as Amanda's glass sculptures and photographs are complemented by a soundscape intended to draw visitors into the life of the valley, through its natural sounds and the voices of the people who care for it.

Amanda Lawrence has long established links with Nature in Art and has been making kiln-formed and engraved glass inspired by natural forms for more than 20 years.

Five years ago she started on a journey to explore in depth the valley where she lives and works.

Armed with a camera, sketchbook and sound recorder, she became a silent observer of this landscape and its wildlife, trees and plants.

In more than 50 'slow walks' she explored its woods, streams, high hills and ancient and modern paths and also talked to some of those who live and work there.

The result is a series of striking kiln-formed glass sculptures and a memorable soundtrack which are brought together with some of the photographs and stories that inspired them in this thought-provoking exhibition.

The works will include collaborative pieces integrating jewellery by local designer Elaine Day into Amanda's sculptural forms.
