Cirencester

  • CIRENCESTER Operatic Society (COS) continue their performances of The Mikado, one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s best-loved musicals.

Set in “a timeless Japan of the imagination” at the new-look Barn Theatre, it has been greeted with excitement by recent audiences, with its improved facilities and sightlines as well as a larger stage and comfier seating.

COS hope that their new Mikado will find favour with traditionalists as well as those who have never seen a G&S musical.

Runs until Saturday, October 22.

Cheltenham

  • THEATRE West, presents a double bill of plays at the Everyman Studio Theatre. The Room Upstairs tells the story of Clem and Toby, a couple finding that the roots of their own fertility issues have been planted in the most ancient of soils.

The accompanying short play, Getting There, is a comedy about middle-aged Sheila who works in fictional Bury Municipal Offices and tries to convince her career-obsessed boss to authorise a statue of Victoria Wood.

The Room Upstairs and Getting There run until Saturday, October 22.

  • IT’S time to dust off your tail coats and fluff up your fascinators as the fabulous Mary Lou Revue steps out once more for a night of razzmatazz at the village hall.   • THE Lechlade Players are staging a French-themed evening at the marquee at the Trout Inn, Lechlade, from 7.30pm. The first part of the evening will consist of a farce, Mixed Doubles, by Georges Feydeau, directed by Andy Pritchard. There will be an interval followed by music and a variety of entertainment.

  • LOCAL History Society presents "Poverty, Pestilence and Privies" – a talk by John Dixon at the village hall from 7.30pm.
