R.C SHERIFF'S multi award-winning First World War Masterpiece Journey’s End comes to Swindon Arts Centre tonight.
Produced by the critically acclaimed and award-nominated Immersion Theatre, Journey’s End is a harrowing insight into the humanity of the First World War based on R. C. Sherriff’s own experiences in the trenches.
This award-winning classic brings the courage, valour, humour and inescapable tragedy of warfare to the stage.
Anxiety builds in Captain Stanhope’s claustrophobic dugout as the threat of an imminent German attack looms over the battalion.
As final orders are received, Stanhope must stir his men to overcome the uncertainty of the unknown, make the ultimate sacrifice and prepare to “go over the top” in a truly heart wrenching climax.
Artistic director James Tobias said of the production: ‘As a modern audience, a lot of us need to see action in order to maintain our attention, however, one of the things I would like to convey is that the dread and unbearable tension of waiting for the unknown can be just as traumatic as the act of war itself.’
Immersion Theatre is a touring company who is fast developing a reputation as a producer of top quality drama and family theatre.
- Journey’s End is at Swindon Arts Centre on Friday, September 23. For more information and to book tickets, visit swindontheatres.co.uk or call Ticket Office on 01793 524481.
