Thursday, August 11
Cirencester

  • CHESTERTON Art Group continues their exhibition of paintings and drawings in the pop-up gallery at the New Brewery Arts Centre. Runs until Sunday, August 14, open 10am-4pm daily with free entry.
  • STAGESMART present West Side Story at the Bingham Hall. The show tells the classic story inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The Montagues and Capulets are replaced by the Sharks and the Jets and first debuted 60 years ago. The show runs until Saturday, August 13 with shows at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets, from £10, are on sale from Cirencester Visitor Information Centre, located at the Corinium Museum or at musictheatreproject.com.
  • THE SUMMER programme of children’s fun continues at the Corinium Museum with a Discovery Zone looking Sport through Time from 11am-12.30pm. With the Olympics underway, come and discover about the ancient Olympics which began in Greece in 776BC. Learn and even play games and sports from the ancient and modern versions. Event is included in admission. Corinium Museum is Park Street.

Chedworth

  • EVERYDAY throughout August, Chedworth Roman Villa is holding summer activities including a fun children’s trail and seasonal craft activities. The museum is open from 10am-5pm, free entry to National Trust members, adults £9.05/children £4.53, family tickets £25.

Moreton-in-Marsh

  • EXHIBITION of Henri Matisse works at the John Davies Gallery, GL56 9NQ. Open Monday-Saturday, 9.30am-5pm, runs until August 27.

Friday, August 12
Bibury

  • BIBURY Flower and Art Festival begins in St Mary's Church. The grandson of Karl Parson, the famous glass-worker and artist who created the stained glass window in the Sanctuary, will be giving a talk about his grandfather and his work. There will be paintings on sale by groups of local artists as well as jewellery, original cards and other crafts. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available. The festival is open from 10.30am-5.30pm until Sunday, August 14.

Malmesbury

  • THE carnival continues with, The Singular Exploits of Sherlock Holmes, presented by Don’t Go Into The Cellar Theatre Company. The show is an affectionate one-man homage to the world’s greatest detective that includes quick costume changes, humour and audience participation. The show begins at 7.30pm in St Mary’s Hall, St Mary’s Street, Malmesbury. Tickets, £10, are available from Malmesbury Town Hall or malmesburycarnival.co.uk.

Saturday, August 13
Cirencester

  • DRAWING on Cirencester, an exhibition at the Bingham Gallery, 1 Dyer Street, will be open. The event showcases historic scenes of Cirencester over the past 250 years. Malmesbury

  • GUIDED history walk as part of the carnival. Accompany guides from Malmesbury Civic Trust around the historic town. Meet at 2.30pm in Market Cross, Malmesbury. Tickets £3 at the event.
  • MALMESBURY Tribal Belly Dancers and guests perform a number of routines in both traditional and fusion style. Over 18s only. 7.30pm in the Town Hall. Tickets £7 from Town Hall or malmesburycarnival.co.uk.

Cheltenham

  • A MIDSUMMER Night's Dream at Cheltenham Lido. Join theatre company Rain or Shine as they present Shakespeare’s comedy where Theseus, Duke of Athens as he throws a party to celebrate his marriage to Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. The show also features the story of Hermia, Helena, Lysander and Demetrius, the fairy king and queen Oberon and Titania and the much loved characters of Bottom and Puck. Performance begins at 8.15pm, tickets cost £13.50, concession discounts available. For more information and to book visit everymantheatre.org.uk

Cirencester

  • TOWN walk around historic Cirencester every Sunday and Bank Holiday until September. Meet at the church porch in the market place at 3pm. Lasts 70 minutes, £2 adults/concessions free. Suitable for children and disabled.

Down Ampney

Chipping Campden

  • GLOUCESTERSHIRE Guild of Craftsmen present their summer show which runs until Wednesday, August 24. The original, handcrafted work of more than 20 guild members will be on show and for sale or commission. Each day there will be craft skills demonstrations by members with makers themselves present to discuss their craft. The show takes place at the Town Hall, High Street, Chipping Campden.   • COME and discover about the age in which Wooly Mammoths roamed the Cotswolds and create your own miniature toy mammoth to take home at the Corinium Museum's Family Drop-In event with Jane Bovenizer. From 10-11am, costs £2 a child, £1 for season ticket holders. From 10.30am-noon there will a children’s workshop featuring printmaking with Emma Stuart. Using the collections for inspiration, create your own series of prints using a variety of techniques.
