TICKETS are selling out fast for Music Theatre Project's summer show West Side Story at The Bingham Hall in Cirencester from August 11.

With just one week remaining, the cast and the professional team from London's West End, have been putting the finishing touches to what promises to be a spectacular show.

Local stage companies MJ-UK Music & Arts and StageSmart have united for this iconic musical.

Artistic director, Maria Jagusz (international opera singer and founder of MJUK) and producer Iwan Lewis (West End star and director of StageSmart) plan to bring the West End to the Cotswolds and showcase the talents of local young performers combined with performers from around the country.

The team direct from London’s West End includes director Kirk Jameson (Seussical the Musical), choreographer Mark Smith (Chichester festival theatre, London 2012 Paralympic Games, Deaf men Dancing) and musical director Issac McCoullough (Les Misérables).

West Side Story is a classic romantic piece of musical theatre inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Director Kirk Jameson said: “West Side Story is widely recognised as a major milestone in the history of musical theatre.

"In addition to Leonard Bernstein's epic score, the piece boasts Shakespeare's genius as a foundation for the entire story and also served as the first outing for the now legendary Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the lyrics.

"It's little wonder then that almost 60 years on, it remains one of the world’s most treasured musicals. Working with Musical Theatre Project on this piece feels like a natural fit, and with the fantastic creative team we've assembled, we're sure to produce some very exciting results.”

Leading man, Daniel Holley (Tony) and leading lady Morgan Cambs (Maria) are both extremely excited to be involved in the project.

Daniel has returned to his home town of Cirencester to take on the dream role of Tony after starring in a recent professional production of Jason Robert Brown’s ‘Parade’ in London.

Morgan, from New York City and currently living in London, is looking forward to the show starting next week.

She said: "This project is a really exciting and valuable opportunity for me as a young professional. It’s a chance to create work out of the city in a focused, professional and nurturing environment where I can still learn and grow.”
