PRIME Theatre, Swindon's only professional theatre company, is running several summer activities for young actors and dancers, including a chance for deaf children to take part.

For those aged 6 - 9 yrs there is an opportunity to make a play in a week based on some best-loved children’s stories.

‘Revolting Roald Dahl’ takes place from Monday, August 1-Friday, August 5 at the Wyvern Theatre.

From 10am – 3pm each day, budding actors will work with professional theatre makers in an exciting week of drama and craft and use Dahl’s famous characters to inspire their own performance.

These workshops will be supported by British Sign Language and are the perfect chance for deaf children to take part in a mixed arts activity.

For performers aged 11 – 18 yrs, Prime Theatre is collaborating with Swindon Dance to offer a unique opportunity with one of the UK’s best new directors and choreographers.

From Monday, August 8-Friday, August 12, award-winning John Ross will lead a week of improvisation, speech and movement.

Taking place in Swindon Dance’s professional studios each day from 10am – 4pm, participants will enjoy a mix of games, exercises and skills development perfect for actors who want to be more confident in their movement and dancers who would like to improve their all round performance.

The week is suitable for all levels of experience and confidence whether participants are a dancer or an actor or both.

  • ‘Revolting Roald Dahl’ costs £100 and ‘John Ross Summer School’ has received special funding to make the participation fee only £25. Both courses have grants available for young people who would otherwise not be able to take part.
