AWARD winning theatre company Promenade Production is presenting their adaptation of The King and I at the Bacon Theatre in Cheltenham in September.

With its exotic setting and colourful production, the play is complemented by a full orchestra to do justice to the memorable score which includes I Whistle a Happy Tune and Shall We Dance?

Set in the 1860’s the musical tells the story of an English widow who moves, with her young son, to Bangkok to become governess to the King’s many children.

Many people are familiar with the 1956 film version of The King and I starring Deborah Kerr as Anna and with Yul Brynner reprising his role as the King. Brynner came to dominate the role of the King and starred in many revivals up until his death in 1985 and the film version won him an Academy Award.
