A POPULAR annual charity event that attracts model railway enthusiasts from a 70-mile radius is taking place in the North Cotswolds on Sunday, May 22.
The StowRail 2016 exhibition at St Edward’s Hall, Stow-on-the-Wold, includes trade stands and practical demonstrations and has become increasingly popular since it was first staged in 2010.
Last year’s proceeds amounted to just under £1,000, bringing the total raised through admission fees and sponsorship over the years for Action Medical Research for Children to more than £4,000.
Eight layouts will be on display, including 2.4-metre Sankei Valley Japanese layout in Z-gauge, the former GWR Corris Railway, on the border between Merionethshire and Montgomeryshire in Mid-Wales, and Bishop Street goods yard, set in London, and Abbotswood Junction, on the Birmingham-Bristol main line in the late 1960s/early 1970s.
The exhibition, visited by holiday makers and day-trippers to the area, is organised by Stow-based architect and railway modeller Andrew Eastabrook.
The minute intricate detail incorporated in the various layouts never ceases to amaze him, he said, and added: “There is always something to catch the eye and interest people of all ages. The exhibition attracts hundreds of adults and countless children.”
Visitors are welcome between 10.30am and 4.30pm.
Admission is £2.50 for adults, children under 16 free. Cakes and refreshments will be available.
