BARNSLEY Village Garden Festival is celebrating its 28th anniversary on Saturday, May 14.

Founded by one of Britain's greatest gardeners, the late Rosemary Verey, the festival aims to open the village and gardens including Barnsley House and garden to the wider public.

As well as bringing the community together, the festival raises money to help enhance the character and upkeep of the village and improve amenities and facilities, and to raise money for local and national charities.

Gardens open to the public include Oxwold House, Herbs for Healing Garden, Barnsley House Garde, Musgrave Arboretum and Barnsley Park Gardens.

As well as gardens, there will plenty going on throughout the day to keep everyone entertained, including jazz, maypole dancing, morris men, A Splash of Red choir, jugglers and cricket.

The Village Pub will serve drinks throughout the day and will be hosting a barbecue. The Village Hall swill be offering up a selection of cakes, food and hot and cold drinks.

There will also be craft and produce stalls positioned around the festival.

On Sunday, May 15 the festival gardens in the village will be open for villagers.

  •  Garden Passports which provide access to all "OPEN" gardens, (including Barnsley House Hotel and Barnsley Park), will be available at the entrance on the day.
  • Passport will cost £7 per person, (children 14 years old and under free). For a full festival timetable go to barnsleyvillage.co.uk
