AWARD-WINNING Villiers Quartet are set to perform a programme of Romantic music at the Swindon Arts Centre on Saturday, November 21, as part of the Swindon Recital Series.

The Quartet will perform pieces by Borodin and Shumann, two of the great Romantic composers.

Borodin will be represented by his Quartet No. 2 known for its rich harmonies which were used later in the musical Kismet.

Villiers Quartet will be joined on stage by Paul Turner, the Founder and Artistic Director of the Swindon Recital Series in a performance of Schumann’s Piano Quintet.

“This is an exciting programme with a group that is defining the string quartet for the 21st century” said Paul.

Declared ‘one of best young quartets around today’ by Jerry Horner of the Fine Arts Quartet, the group won the 2015 Radcliffe Chamber of Music Competition and were appointed Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Oxford for the next three years.

The group also featured on the soundtrack for the recent BBC production of Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
