MATTHEW Fittock, a PhD Researcher at Reading University will explore Roman Pottery in an evening lecture at Cirencester’s Corinium Museum on Thursday, November 26.

The lecture, sponsored by the Committee for Archaeology in Gloucestershire, will take the audience into the World of Roman sculptural pottery exploring its religious and functional significance alongside an exploration of the deities, animal and human forms.

The Romans sculpted the clay into many different ceremonial figures, the remains of which have been uncovered across Roman sites in Britain.

Matthew, an archaeologist who has excavated at Silchester and Pompeii, will use these figurines into daily life and ritual in Roman Britain, drawing upon comparative studies across the Roman Empire.
