A FAMILY run summer art exhibition opens next week at Lower Slaughter Hall near Bourton-on-the-Water.

Organised by artist Priscilla Peace and her husband Hubert, the exhibition will feature a collection of work by local artists, including ceramicist Penny Varley, painters Ted and Anne Miles, Kate Wilson and Linda Chew.

Keeping it in the family, Priscilla will be showing her paintings, which take their main inspiration from the family farm, and husband Hubert will display his woodturning talents. Youngest son Mark will exhibit his wildlife photography.

Hubert and Priscilla own a farm of around 100 acres near Stow on the Wold.

Prior to this move into farming, Priscilla had owned and run the Fiery Beacon Art Gallery in Painswick.

Alongside running the family farm, both Priscilla and Hubert took up lecturing. On retiring from lecturing Hubert went back to his childhood love of woodturning, using wood from their own farm.

They currently have around 300 sheep and Priscilla keeps bantams, ducks and geese as a hobby, which is where her animal painting comes from. Priscilla had been exhibiting her painting locally quite successfully for a number of years, and as Hubert and Mark became more confident in woodturning and wildlife photography respectively, the idea of an exhibition for family and friends was hatched.

“We decided last year it would be fun to have a family and friends exhibition. Apart from us three, there was my talented cousin Penny Carey, long standing family friend, Penny Fulljames, and Maureen Chew who had originally exhibited in my Fiery Beacon Gallery in Painswick. Other friends from round about joined us and we had a fun and successful show.”

The Peace’s are hoping that this year’s exhibition will be equally fun. Penny added: “ We are hoping for another fun show with something for everyone. We're not too serious and all are welcome to come and have a browse round.”
