AN IMPRESSIVE line-up of stars will come together to perform at a charity concert in Poulton Church on June 21, in aid of one of the village’s favourite charities.

Much acclaimed mezzo-soprano, Maria Jagusz, distinguished Indian cellist, Anup Kumar Biswas, and brilliant young violinist, Julia Liang will come together under the musical direction of Barrie Cooper to provide Poulton with a musical treat.

The charity they are supporting is the Mathieson Music School which gives stability and a rounded education to some of the poorest children in Calcutta.

Some of the school’s results in terms of enabling Indian children to play “western” instruments and perform in public are staggering.

The village of Poulton, through the patronage of Tom and Sally Boyd, took the school to its heart almost 20 years ago and this event will continue the tradition of raising funds for the school.

Maria is well-known for giving her time and talent to support good causes.

Anup is the founder of the school and he has given his life to raising Calcutta’s poorest children out of poverty and giving them a rounded education.

Julia is a prodigiously talented Cirencester-born violinist, currently studying at the Royal Academy.

The impressive cast will be further enhanced by the guest appearance of Dan Holley who in 2010 as a teenager played the eponymous hero in the production of Tom Boyd’s musical Tom Sawyer.

This year he was one of the Kingdom Tenors who reached the semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent.

* Charity Concert at Poulton Church on Sunday, June 21 at 7.30pm. The concert is a non-ticketed event but a retiring collection will take place for the school (suggested £10 to £20).
