REMEMBER the days when soul/funk ruled the airways? If you do, then the next Brewery Blues session at the Kings Head Hotel, Cirencester, on Friday June 12 will take you back – if you don’t, then the 7.45 to 11pm session will show you what you’ve been missing.

Headline act Soular serve up a smorgasbord of classic and contemporary funk, soul and disco standards, recreating the dance-floor filling sounds of the ’70s and ’80s. Formed in 2011 by soul diva Dolly James and bassist Mark Brown, the band’s repertoire includes classic numbers by Chic, James Brown, Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge, Nile Rodgers and Diana Ross. If you want to dance, groove or just be entertained, this is a night not to be missed.

Support comes from Antoine Architeuthis, a singer-songwriter from Salisbury. Playing Irish bouzouki, Antoine creates his own brand of folk music, showing the influence of Pentangle and Fairport Convention plus a seasoning of world music. A firm favourite at Brewery Blues, he’s sure to please his legions of fans once more.

Also supporting are Gloucester-based duo A New Leaf, comprising singer-songwriter Donna Smith and guitarist Chris Heaven. The duo got together in 2011 with the aim of writing and performing original acoustic-based material, and they’re busy recording for their debut album due for release later this year.

*Tickets are available in advance from the Kings Head, or by calling 01285 700 900. They cost £10 (£8 concessions) or £11 (£9) on the night.
