CLASSICS at Prescott heralds the Spring season at the legendary motoring venue as it roars into action on Sunday, May 10.

Organised by the Cheltenham Cleeve Vale Rotary Club, the popular event brings together an array of pre-1980s vehicles from across the globe, allowing their enthusiastic drivers to drive the world-famous hill, in return for a charity donation.

Crowds will see around 200 vehicles of all shapes and sizes take to the track as drivers counter the world-renowned speed straights and hairpin bends in a series of marshalled but untimed runs.

For the less daring, gentle cavalcades up the hill will show vehicles off in all their glory, while event visitors can admire the wide variety of classic, vintage and special vehicles on display in the paddock areas.

A legend behind the wheel of a Mini, John ‘Smokey’ Rhodes, renowned for his tyre-sliding, ‘sideways’ driving technique, will relive tales of his thrilling racing career and promote and sign copies of his new book in the Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance marquee.

Among the headliners of the vehicle line-up and celebrating its 25th birthday this year, the Honda NSX will be well-represented, with at least three of the popular supercars on display, while Bentley Blower, Morgan Aero, Alvis Crested Eagle Saloon, Lagonda and Lanchester will fly the flag for the 20s and 30s.

Famous post-war names Berkeley, Buckler, Riley 2.6, Turner, BMW Isetta and Rover P4 will be among the many other marques on display.

The event, which is sponsored by Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance, last year raised more than £16,000 and has now generated more than £160,000 for a range of charities since its launch in 2004.

Director Peter James said: “Always a fantastic way to celebrate the real start of Prescott’s spring classic vehicle event season, this event has something for everyone – beautiful scenery, stunning cars and thrilling on-road action.

“It is a fantastic family day out and raises valuable funds for a variety of worthy causes – we are thoroughly looking forward to meeting all the visitors who come along to enjoy the day.”

*The event runs from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, May 10. Spectators are welcome, with a suggested donation of £15 per car.
