PETER Knight’s Gigspanner has been hailed as “another milestone in folk’s rebirth of cool”, although to classify these three virtuoso performers purely as folk musicians is to undersell them by a long chalk.
A bedrock of British traditional music is to be expected from Steeleye Span’s erstwhile legendary fiddle player, who has accrued a lifetime’s worth of accolades. However, Gigspanner’s musical reach flirts with Eastern European, French, Cajun, African and even Aboriginal influences.
Peter’s musicianship is further enhanced by the flawless playing of Roger Flack on guitar and Vincent Salzfaas on congas and djembe.
See Gigspanner at Swindon Arts Centre, Devizes Road, on Friday, November 14 at 8pm. For details, visit: swindontheatres.co.uk
