Re-enactors return the Golden Age of Roman Britain to Chedworth Roman Villa Legio II Augusta re-enactors and National Trust costumed interpreters re-create a weekend of Roman life at Chedworth Roman Villa.

On 26-27 July visitors at Chedworth Roman Villa will have an opportunity to step back in time to the Golden Age of Roman Britain and see the Roman civilian life re-enacted on the ancient Roman site.

National Trust is taking part in the national initiative of the Council of British Archaeology and holding a two-week long Festival of Archaeology and the weekend with Roman re-enactments is part of it.

‘This is the second year we are taking part in the national initiative of the Council of British Archaeology,’ says Lorna Hetherington, House and Monument Steward at Chedworth Roman Villa. ‘The Roman re-enactment event is the culmination of the festival and is extremely popular with our visitors.’ David Richardson, the leader of the Legio II Augusta group, is delighted to be back at the Roman Villa. ‘Our group of re-enactors love coming to perform at Chedworth Roman Villa,’ he says. ‘Over the weekend there will be demonstrations portraying Roman civilian domestic life as well as shows of Roman military. The displays are always very popular with young and old alike. People love getting a taste of a day in a Roman Villa nearly 2000 years ago.’ Roman re-enactment event ‘Romans are coming!’ will take place at Chedworth Roman Villa on 26 -27 July.
