AN EXCITING collection of vibrant lithographs by one of the most famous, versatile and influential artists of the 20th Century is currently on show at Wetpaint Gallery in Cirencester until August 23.

Henri Matisse’s prolific career spanned six decades, during which time he worked in all media from painting, to sculpture, to printmaking.

During the last years of his life, Matisse could no longer hold a brush to paint.

Instead he created many highly innovative, brightly coloured, gouache cut-outs.

In 1953 these images were reinterpreted as lithographs, in collaboration with Mourlot Freres in Paris, under the personal supervision of the artist.

These images are often considered to be amongst his most iconic.

Many are featured in this exhibition, together with selected etchings.

Gallery owner Celia Wickham said: “Matisse is very much in the public eye just now thanks to Tate Modern’s current exhibition of his original cut-outs.

“We are delighted to be able to bring his work to Cirencester, and offer works for sale by such a well-respected and high profile artist.”

Entry is free and all works will be available for sale.

Exhibition opening hours are Thursday to Saturday, 10am-5pm.

The gallery address is: Wetpaint Gallery, The Old Chapel, 14 London Road, Cirencester, GL7 1AE.

A selection of work will also be available to view on the website wetpaintgal lery.co.uk For further information telephone 01285 644990 or email cah@contemporary-art-holdings.co.uk
