NO TWO Brewery Blues shows are ever the same. They draw from a large jamboree bag of talent that not only includes local artists, but those clamouring to perform UK wide and as far afield as Ireland, USA, Holland, Germany and France.

Headliners on Friday, July 11, Mumbo Jumbo, are a red hot mixture of three of the Midland’s tastiest blues players.

They are a close harmony, semi-acoustic piano-led combo, playing rootsy original material in their own inimitable style – with not an acoustic guitar in sight, but entertainingly combining excellent musicianship with relaxed good humour.

This fearsome threesome are led by songwriter Oliver Carpenter – vocals, trumpet and percussion – Chris Lomas – bass, ukulele and vocals – with Fred Skidmore on honky-tonk piano.

The band’s album Life of Riley has received rave reviews, as well as plenty of radio airplay and has won them a nomination in the British Blues Awards for Best Original Song/Songwriter.

Mumbo-Jumbo’s recent festival schedule included the Great British R&B Festival, Wallingford Beer & Blues, Banbury Blues, Nantwich Blues, Bromsgrove Folk, Upton Blues, Blues at The Fold, Jinney Ring Blues, and Hay Philosophy Festival.

Brewery debutant Louise Lathan is a gifted Welsh singer-songwriter whose career is gaining substantial momentum whilst attracting significant airplay throughout the UK and in North America.

Her debut album Reclaimed was successfully released to the point where several tunes have been assigned as soundtracks by a leading British independent film company and the album is in the “TOP 50” listing by New Sound Wales, prompting BBC Wales presenter Alan Thompson to refer to her as being “One of the best Welsh songwriters of our time”.

Louise’s vocal delivery is pure, ethereal, intense and profoundly moving. This live performance is one that you will quite definitely remember for many years.

Pete Taylor modestly describes himself as just a man, a loop station and a whole lot of acoustic folk rock. But several very high profile events, including last year’s Paralympics Closing Ceremony underlines his copious abilities. Meanwhile, his album Set in Stone continues to receive quality airplay on stations like BBC 6.

Drawl are young rockers from the Cirencester and Swindon area, they were previously known as Devotion. The line up includes: Charlie Cooper – vocals rhythm guitar – Ryan Tennant – lead guitar – Rosie Robinson on bass and Joe Main – drums. They are really looking forward to performing at the Brewery Blues for the first time, which fits well with the venue’s mantra of providing a showcase for young talent, and they certainly fit that bill.

The event is on Friday, July 11, 7.45pm-11pm. Tickets are available in advance, online at: www.newbreweryarts.org.uk or box office: 01285 657181, £9 (£7 concessions/students). Or £10 on the night. (£8 concessions/students).
