BREWERY Blues, Cirencester, features Ethemia and Friends on Friday, May 30, 7.45pm to 11pm.

All across the country everybody’s talking about Ethemia – the ground breaking acoustic duo from Cirencester which is made up of Michaela Mott and Berny Poulton.

Having played together solidly for over two and a half years they are attracting ever increasing volumes of plaudits and media attention.

Known as “one of the hardest working bands on the circuit” having performed over 250 gigs and appeared on over 40 radio stations including BBC Introducing and BBC Musicians’ Masterclass, their sound brings Fleetwood Mac and The Beautiful South to mind, but their trademark charismatic on-stage chemistry suggests maybe The Civil Wars.

Following the release of their debut album, Quirk of Fate rave reviews quickly followed including the BBC and Fatea Magazine.

Recently Gaby Roslin on BBC Radio London, was moved to comment on air: “Fabulous music...that was amazing. It’s quite hypnotic watching you both…you’re fantastic.

“The entire studio is lost for words, I’m completely overwhelmed. Would you please come back on my show?”

Wherever they perform – in intimate and larger venues (including The Union Chapel and The Natural History Museum London) and festivals, they always commit real heart to their music. This includes their Special Sofa Sessions especially for those who are unable to leave their own home due to illness or disabilities. Michaela and Berny have performed to cancer patients of all ages in their own homes and in hospital.

Catch them, while you can, in their own backyard.

Support includes The Portraits who performed at Glastonbury last year and were aired on the BBC by Tom Robinson.

Launched in 2005 by Irish singer Lorraine Reilly and Bristolian pianist Jeremy Millington, their warm upbeat sound, with delicious harmonies, mixture of folk with theatre, jazz and classical styles has drawn a big following in the UK and France.

As well as being crowned Best International Artist 2011 by US radio station Radio Crystal Blue, their song, Liberty, was written for Burma’s democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi, and presented to her in person.
