THE Vienna Festival Ballet have been producing classical ballet tours for over 30 years and they continue to enchant Cheltenham audiences with biannual visits to the Bacon Theatre. Their latest dazzling classical production, Cinderella will be performed at the Dean Close School venue on Saturday, March 29.

A mistreated young girl, two comical ugly step-sisters, a glass slipper and a handsome young prince come together in Vienna Festival Ballet’s rendition of the classic fairy-tale romance, suitable for all ages.

A melange of music has been put together especially for this show by the renowned conductor and musical director, Chris Nicolls. He has borrowed from some of the great Italian composer Rossini’s most famous operatic achievements, including La Cenerentola the Italian Girl in Algiers and Silken Ladder which all add to the magical fantasy world of Cinderella. The newly arranged score has also been recorded for the company by the leading orchestra in Kosice, Slovakia, conducted by Nicolls himself.

Sheila Styles, previously of the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet, has also expertly choreographed this ballet, combining pure classical dancing with a delicate touch of pantomime.

Speaking for the Vienna Festival Ballet, Artistic Director Peter Mallek said: “Sheila Styles is one of the most expert and idiosyncratic choreographers from the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet and she has created, through inspiration from the choice of music and her talent for choreography and staging, a perfect ballet for Vienna Festival Ballet.”

Based on the traditional tale of romance and mystery, this production will surely make an impact, promising exquisite choreography and fun characters.
