THE Brewery Blues Special at New Brewery Arts Cirencester, on Friday, March 28 features the Pat Nicholson Band with support from Nobody’s Business.
Pat Nicholson straddles the divide between blues and country with consummate ease.
Equally at home in either camp, or smack dab in the middle with soul. His first album Roll With It carries the title track that is a metaphor for the ineffability of life, which sums up this Bristolian travelling man’s take on his musical direction.
His lyrics are well-crafted and eloquent and are underpinned by a deft, light guitar touch and a trademark soulful groove. Make no mistake this is a player at the top of his game who has the confidence and panache to know when less really is more. When it comes to song writing style he is not concerned with being categorised.
Recently returned to the UK from Canada and Australia, Brewery Blues welcomes Pat and his band to the Brewery featuring bassist Valere Speranza. A night for lovers of authentic American inspired music who are prepared to leave genre preconceptions at the door.
Nobody’s Business consist of ‘Gentleman’ Danny Ward (guitar and banjo) and Colin Elliott (blues harp). Dan started listening to blues at the age of eight. While his mates were listening to T-Rex and Slade, he was secretly listening the likes of Lightnin’ Hopkins, Big Bill Broonzy, Muddy Waters, Sonny Terry/Brownie McGhee as well as jazz greats such as Django Reinhart. The rest, as they say, is history.
Colin got his first harmonica in the late 60s to copy his hero Bob Dylan, then he heard Sonny Boy Williamson. From there on in it was blues harp all the way. The duo have been together four years and have just finished their second album called Easy. Expect a polished set of Delta style blues.
Tickets in advance through breweryarts.org.uk or box office on 01285 657181.
The show is on Friday, March 28 from 7.45pm.
