THE Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys’ Chamber Choir will be undertaking a local mini tour this month presenting three concerts of English music.

The 24-strong all-male choir aged 11-18 from a state selective school in Canterbury, Kent, have undertaken an Advent tour for the last four years, but this year are undertaking an ‘English Composers’ Tour over the weekend of December 13-15.

They will sing works by local composers Holst – This have I done for my true love and Clouds o’er the summer sky; Elgar – As torrents in Summer and Ave Verum; and Ralph Vaughan Williams – Linden Lea and Wither’s Rocking Hymn, plus Christmas music by all three – Holst’s Personent Hodie, Elgar’s The Holly and the Ivy (a recently discovered work) and Vaughan Williams’ Quem Pastores.

They will also sing Christmas music by Britten, Tavener, Rutter and Warlock.

The choir are really looking forward to coming to this part of the world and seeing the countryside that inspired Elgar and Holst particularly.

During their visit, they will visit both the Elgar and the Holst birthplaces, singing at both.

They will perform at All Saints Church, Down Ampney on Friday, December 13 at 7pm, at St John Baptist in Cirencester on Saturday, December 14, at 7.30pm, and at the morning service at All Saints Church, Down Ampney on Sunday, December 15, at 10am, and are looking forward to seeing you there.
