Iron Man 3 shows no sign of rusting

Robert Downey Jr stars as super hero Iron Man in the latest Marvel blockbuster

10:16am Thursday 2nd May 2013

IRON MAN 3 (12A) You have to hand it to Marvel Studios. They made the decision, some years ago, to introduce to the film going audience their extended universe - Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America all got their own feature films and then came together for The Avengers. This was also in conjunction with The Amazing Spiderman & other Marvel films. The plan has been an unqualified success, and so they are moving on to the next stage of films, which will again culminate in a second Avengers film. Iron Man, who has started the Marvel plan off, was already into its second film and now completes a trilogy of the Robert Downey Jr starring films. Tony Stark, the billionaire industrialist who is also Iron Man, seemingly has it all - including a steady girlfriend Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) for the first time in a while. However the events of New York, in the Avengers film, has left an indelible mark on him and he can't sleep. Added to this a new threat has emerged in the form of a terrorist called The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), and a number of unexplained bombs, where the bomb fragments can't be found. The key to this lies in Tony's past after an encounter with Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) led to him founding AIM, an advanced biological facility which is exploring the limits of mankind's potential for self-improvement. An attack close to home, forces Tony to confront the Mandarin himself and find out a hidden truth about this new threat to civilisation.
