Location & Description

Abbotswood Lodge stands in the well established residential area of Ruspidge, close to the heart of the Forest of Dean, which itself lies between the Severn Estuary to the south and the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the west.

Originally constructed as the Lodges to nearby Abbotswood House and built in approximately 1840, the Lodge was subsequently significantly extended in 1906, and it is largely this major extension which forms the greater part of Abbotswood Lodge today.

The original mansion was constructed for the noted Crawshay family, significant iron and steel entrepreneurs in the early 19th Century. The mansion was destroyed by fire in the late 1970's.

One of the many attributes of Abbotswood Lodge is its generous room sizes and ceiling heights, and lovely large sash windows to the main rooms which not only allow spectacular views, but also admit a great deal of natural light.

More recently, the current owners have constructed a superb conservatory to the north western elevation, and alongside same is a vine covered pergola and superb sun terrace, ideal for alfresco dining.

The brick paved approach path conveniently delineates the fine lawned garden from the shrub and herbaceous garden, whilst to the south of the latter is the productive vegetable section. There is also a garage and several sheds and workshops towards the southern boundary. For those to whom connectivity is important, the property has recently been connected to fast fibre broadband.

To those looking for a beautifully proportioned and well maintained family property, we strongly recommend a thorough inspection. In detail the property comprises:-

Nearby are Two Wooden Storage Sheds, one 12 x 8'.And the second Lean-to Log Store being of approx. Dimensions 11' x 4'.

There is also attached to the side of the house a Further Lean-to Workshop of approx. External dimensions 14' x 8'6. Paving surrounds these outbuildings, and between here and the rear door of the property are Two Fuel Bunkers. To the north western boundary is a further Wooden Shed approx. 8' x 6'.

The Principal Areas of Garden lie to the Left and Front of the Property, the Side Lawn Being Very Neatly Maintained, and rising from the tarmacadam driveway up to the Superb Pergola which is adorned with a prolific grapevine. Shrubs flanking this area of lawn include Cotinus, Hebes, Camellia, Hazel, Hydrangea, Fuchsia and many others. Wide stone steps lead up to the aforementioned pergola, whilst flanking this area is an Excellent Paved Sun Terrace being a delightful and most private spot in which to sit out in semi sun, semi shade and gaze at the scene before one. Alongside the sun terrace is a Brick Built bbq and a Fine Magnolia adjacent to steps up to the rear garden (see later). The area of garden directly in front of the house is altogether more intimate, beds immediately in front of the kitchen being an absolute picture with a wonderful parade of Sweet Peas.

Enclosed within a fenced area is a Pond and Wet Garden, complete with waterfall flowing down from a higher level. Here there is a grassy path leading past the rear of the house which leads to a Wild Garden, to the corner of which is a Magnificent Mature Oak Tree.
